It all started with chickens...
Before our pigs, alpacas & even goats... there were chickens. For more than twenty years, we've raised our own chickens and discovered the joy of heritage egg-laying breeds along the way. We’ve developed a particular love for the delightful Ameraucana, recognized for its fluffy-faced appearance and stunning blue eggs.

Ameraucanas
The Ameraucana breed is famous for their beautiful blue-shelled eggs and distinctive tufts of feathers on their cheeks, referred to as muffs and beards. Known for their curious and friendly nature, they also stand out with their striking feather patterns and colors—ranging from black and blue to splash, lavender, and wheaten. And, their "pea" comb helps them avoid frost bite in our cold Canadian winters.
BBS
BBS stands for Blue, Black & Splash: three of the ten Ameraucana varieties recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA). Depending on the mix in a breeding group, chicks can hatch out as any of those three stunning colors! Blues are characterized by their exquisite silver lacing, while Splash showcase white feathers adorned with flecks of black. Blacks are recognized by their shiny, iridescent blue-green feathers. Each color brings its own charm and beauty to this delightful breed. We are currently using a striking Blue roo with a group of Blue, Black & Splash hens.
Chocolate & Mauve
Although the beautiful Chocolate color is not officially recognized by the APA, we are proud to be among a handful breeders in the province dedicated to this unique project. Our original stock came from Perry Scholfield, a pioneer in Canada's Chocolate variety development. We also breed Mauve Ameraucana, which are sex-linked, meaning chicks can be sexed by their feather colour on the day they hatch. In our case, we breed a Chocolate roo over Splash & Blue hens. This results in Blue & Black male chicks, and Mauve & Chocolate female chicks.
Hatching Eggs, Chicks & Pullets
We're excited to announce this year that we will be offering hatching eggs from our BBS and Mauve breeding groups. Throughout the Spring and Summer seasons, we will also have chicks available (BBS, Mauve, Chocolate), based on interest and demand. Stay tuned for updates, as we will be advertising available BBS and Chocolate pullets for sale later in the summer from our grow-outs.
